flow like water

they were all sand
slipping thru my fingers
slinking shards of sea glass
broken shells
common quartz
burning my soles
stuck on my tongue
in grainy clumps

sometimes
I’d sink
into their shallows
and think this must be it, then
filling my mouth with
sediment
I never meant
to swallow

but every time, I do
choking on so many you’s

and then
my head
went under the waves
and it was like
waking from a
dream
I am a liquid
being

how could water and salt
ever be sated with sand?

the current calls
to me, eagerly
and the coast is
so, so far now
I had been
dipping
toes in shallows
for a lifetime

crashing on the shore before
flooding to aware there is
so much more
in my depths

I fill my lungs
savoring the flowing inhale
my skin ripples, surges, swells,
and I dive,

I sea,
arm over arm,
as wave over wave,
dancing with the deep.
